Oculus Quest 2 in the Classroom

Why Virtual Reality?

Virtual Reality (VR) allows students to travel to other countries, explore inside the human body, dive deep into the ocean, or experiment in a chemistry lab -- all without leaving the classroom. Once a student puts on the VR headset, they are transported into a 360° view that brings the curriculum alive. While VR can also be used for interactive gaming, there are many instructional opportunities available through virtual reality.

How can I use VR in my class?

  • Oculus Demo - A librarian comes to your class to demonstrate the Oculus and its related apps to the whole group. Basics of the Oculus will be shown; a few students will have a chance to try a demo.
  • In-Class, Course-Related Oculus Activity - A librarian comes to your class to teach using an Oculus app related to your curriculum; the app and Oculus will be shown to the entire class, but not all students may have the chance to try the activity individually depending on time and size of class
  • In-Library, INDEPENDENT Oculus Activity - Students will submit reservations to use the Oculus for an app-related assignment/experience; students would then come individually/in small groups to use the Oculus anytime they reserve it.
  • In-Library, WHOLE CLASS Oculus Activity - Your class would come to our library VR classroom for simultaneous use of 20 VR headsets; instruction would occur at the beginning and then students would be free to use the headset individually or as a class with demonstrations
  • Other - If you have an idea or want to know if something is possible using the Oculus, reach out! We are always learning more about integrating this technology and welcome any new opportunities for collaboration.
